What do you do with a mobile phone?
The simple answer is to make a voice call from wherever you are, but remembering that 20 years
ago you would have needed to carry more than 1 kg of mobile phone equipment, demonstrates that much improvement had to be done. Ten years later you could have brought your mobile phone weighing only 100g across Europe and enjoyed conversations with your family, friends and business partners. Today, the mobile phone is not only used as a communication device, but also as a convenient tool that supports a user's daily life in many ways. You can chat, access the Internet, make a video call, and do some shopping across the world just by using your mobile phone. In addition, the latest handsets have been conveniently used as a wallet and will soon be used as a ticket for transportation in Japan. And of course the story doesn't end there. The exciting question today is: How will future emerging trends of mobile phone usage look like?
NTT DOCOMO Inc., one of the leading companies of mobile communication worldwide, has been challenging about 1000 R&D engineers to develop and to introduce new services in the past and is continuing its R&D efforts to fulfill customer's needs in the near and far future. In 2001, DOCOMO Communication Laboratories Europe GmbH was established by NTT DOCOMO in Munich to aid in
this effort in particular to create new technologies and services that are centered around the user's needs and unprecedented by their appealing features and capabilities. To achieve this challenging goal, we in Euro-Labs have been uniting different academic foundations. Located in Munich, the crossroad of Europe, our researchers have come together from more than ten countries to collaborate with highly qualified European technical Universities and major players in the mobile industry.
Under the keyword, ”Mobile Adventure” , we are continuing our research activities to bring our customers dreams, about what they want to do with their mobile phone, to life in the time to come.
