DOCOMO Euro-Labs shall become European Center for Core Network Standardization
Laboratories Europe GmbH (DOCOMO Euro-Labs), based in Munich, is being
strategically refined to become the European center of competence for core
network standardization. This is supposed to happen as part of the global
optimization of NTT DOCOMO’s research and development activities.
The core network
technologies will play a decisive future role in 5G use cases, e.g. enhanced
mobile broadband, massive machine-type communication and ultra-reliable and
low-latency communications. Core Network standardization forms the basis to
ensure compatibilities among technological solutions from different companies.
DOCOMO Euro-Labs represents the interests of the Japanese mobile communication
operator NTT DOCOMO.
Although 5G use cases require new technologies for
both core network and wireless, the plan is that, in the future, DOCOMO
Euro-Labs shall focus on the core network standardization in line with the
global optimization of NTT DOCOMO’s research and development activities. As
part of the realignment, the current plan is that activities of DOCOMO
Euro-Labs in the areas of wireless technologies as well as technology
investigation and scouting shall be discontinued in Germany. In the coming
months, DOCOMO Euro-Labs will be working together with the Works Council to
implement the planned measures and to draw up a social plan for developing
socially acceptable solutions for the effected employees over the medium term.
